About this step

Having received capacity building support to conduct national capacity, risk and threat assessments a country is likely to have one or more assessment reports that can inform the strategy production phase.  Before using these reports it is recommended that a government validate them and consider their findings.  It is a good practice for a government to critically use any information and advice that it receives or generates internally in the Stocktaking and Analysis phase.  In fact this process is essential for converting information and data into analysis and actionable insights.

What in the reports confirmed the government’s prior understanding and what came as a surprise?  Were there any findings that the government disagreed with?  The process of asking such questions will encourage relevant ministries and agencies to fully consider the information in the reports.  It will also give the government the opportunity to ask follow-up questions about the findings.
